Jupally finally gets berth in Telangana cabinet

After a long wait for over three years, Kollapur MLA Jupally Krishna Rao finally got a berth in the State cabinet, a position to which he resigned in October 2011 for the cause of Telangana statehood.

Jupally, the five-time MLA from Kollapur constituency of Mahabubnagar district, was inducted as a minister in the cabinet of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday.

Born on August 10, 1955, Jupally began his political career in 1981 after resigning from his job as a bank employee. He got elected from Kollapur constituency on Congress ticket in 1999. However, he contested and won as an independent in 2004 elections and returned to the Congress fold in 2009 elections. He served as a minister in the cabinets of Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy and N Kiran Kumar Reddy. However, during the peak of Telangana agitation in March 2011, he resigned from Kiran Kumar Reddy’s cabinet. On October 12, 2011, he also resigned from the post of MLA and Congress party and joined the TRS on October 30, 2011.

Jupally got re-elected on TRS ticket in the by-elections held in March 2012 and retained the seat with a huge majority in 2014 general elections. He was unexpectedly left out when KCR constituted his cabinet on June 2 this year. But the Mahabubnagar strongman has been given a berth during the cabinet’s first expansion. (INN)
