Bareilly: Believing himself to be the historical warrior and hero Prithviraj Chauhan, a 26-old man burst into a wedding and tried to carry away the bride by force.
The incident happened on Wednesday night when the bride and groom were on the stage to exchange garlands. Just as the ceremony started, the accused Mahavir, shouting “I am Prithviraj Chauhan”, jumped up on the stage along with his associates.
According to Times of India reports, he allegedly terrorized the guest with a sword and countrymade pistol and tried to take the bride away by force.
But since he was not the historical warrior, he was caught and beat up by the guests. The groom’s party also jumped into the fray and beat up Mahavir while his associates fled the scene.
Local police reached the spot and FIR has been lodged against him. It came to light that Mahavir was mentally unstable and actually believed that he was Prithviraj Chauhan who come to cart off his bride Sanyukta.
“We have registered a case under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 452 (house trespass), 504 (insult with intent to breach peace) and Section 25 of Arms Act against the accused, who has been sent to jail,” said Sirauli police station inspector Gajendra Tyagi, talking to TOI.
