Junior ministers should be given responsibilities: Cong

New Delhi, January 18: Ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s meeting with junior ministers, Congress today asked Cabinet ministers to allocate work to the ministers of state and benefit from their “youth and enthusiasm”.

“One thing is clear that the youth who have got an opportunity to work in the government should be given responsibility,” AICC spokesman Shakeel Ahmed told reporters here.

Ahmed, who himself was a Minister of State (MoS) in the previous UPA government, said the government and the ministers under whom they (MoS) function should benefit from their “youth and enthusiasm”.

Singh has convened a meeting of Ministers of State in the government tomorrow to know about the work they have been doing ever since they were allocated portfolios in May last year.

There are as many as 38 ministers of state and seven ministers of state with independent charge in the Council of Ministers.
