Junior doctos boycott duties

Hyderabad, April 08: Demanding security at all government hospitals for round-the-clock protection to duty doctors, hundreds of junior doctors and post-graduate students boycotted emergency duties at all government hospitals from Saturday afternoon. They staged a demonstration at the Gandhi Hospital

Telangana Junior Doctors Association gave a call on Saturday to boycott all emergency services in all government hospitals after their talks with the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) officials failed.

“We have decided to boycott emergency services in all government hospitals from the afternoon protesting against the callous attitude of the government,” Imran, Telangana Junior Doctors Association convener, said.

He said that they have submitted a memorandum to Dr. Ravi Raju, director, DME on Friday and he promised to form a committee comprising DME officials and junior doctors to look into the issue. But on Saturday he went back on the promise, Imran said.

The state government has not taken any steps in providing security to junior doctors though they have been boycotting duties for the past 10 days at Niloufer hospital in the city. “We will not attend duties till round-the-clock security is provided in the hospital, besides a police outpost on permanent basis,” he said.
