Hyderabad: Bemoaning that the judiciary was not responding on the violation of Anti-Defection Law in a proper manner, AICC general secretary in-charge of Telangana Congress Party Affairs Digvijaya Singh said the unholy defections were taking place publicly. “It may be said contempt of the Court. Why we are shying to implement the law of the land”, he wondered.
Addressing 26th Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Yatra Commemoration Day at Charminar here on Wednesday, Digvijaya Singh stated that the Telangana Chief Minister was encouraging defections in violation of Anti-Defection Act. He alleged that the Chief Minister, who supposed to protect the Constitution, was himself encouraging the defections. “It is a bad day for democracy. It is unfortunate”, he lamented. The MLAs and MPs have joined the ruling party for contracts and business deals and nothing will happen with their exit, he said. He made it clear to the defectors that the Congress will not allow them to come back to the party when it rides to power.
Digvijaya also alleged that the BJP government at the Centre was disturbing secularism in the country and giving new meaning to the word ‘secularism’. Stating that the Congress never compromised with terrorism, Digvijay alleged that the BJP was politicking in the name of Army. It was not proper to BJP leaders to say that the surgical strikes took place with the inspiration given by RSS, he said. He said there was nothing wrong in the statement made by the AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi that the BJP was indulging in politics with the ‘blood’ of soldiers.
He further said the BJP did not bring black money from foreign countries as declared during elections. It was raising war bogie on Pakistan issue only to hide its failures with regard to its assurances made during elections. “Our country is a peaceful one and that doesn’t mean we are afraid of somebody”, he explained. The BJP leaders were erecting flexes in Uttar Pradesh in the name of Surgical Strikes with the photos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Manohar Parikkar to win the elections. Reminding that the surgical strikes took place even in the past, Digvijay said the BJP was thinking that it will get benefited in elections in case the war comes with Pakistan. He said Lal Bahadur Shastri and Indira Gandhi had defeated Pakistan in the war twice.
Alleging that the BJP was using religion to win the elections, he demanded the BJP government to discuss the Common Civil Code issue with all political parties in case it wants to change it. He made it clear that the common civil code should be implemented only if unanimity comes with discussions. “The Congress party will not accept in case the BJP government tries to rub the Common Civil Code on one religion”, he said. He also asked the BJP government to tell whether it has no other agenda to implement in the country instead of Common Civil Code.
The BJP government issued IT notices to nine lakh petty jewelry businessmen in the country. The businessmen were unhappy with the notices, he opined. Asking the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was now stating that attack him first if one wants to attack Daliths, to tell as to why he failed to react in the same manner when attacks were taken place in Gujarat.
Prime Minister failed to raise the Pakistan issue during BRICS two-day meetings, he criticised and said that Russia successfully raised Syria issue in the same meeting. “Is it not a failure of Modi?”, he questioned. Describing Modi as ‘Publicity Hero’, Digvijay asked the media to expose the true colors of the Modi government. (NSS)
