Chennai, October 13: A judge of the Madras High Court today recused himself from hearing the anticipatory bail application filed by the activists of a Tamil outfit allegedly involved in the ransacking of Sri Lankan High Commission premises in Delhi earlier this month.
Puthiya Tamizhagham founder K Krishnasamy and 11 others sought the bail apprehending their arrest for allegedly ransacking the Lankan diplomatic mission on October 2 when they staged a dharna protesting alleged firing by island Navy on Indian fishermen.
About 40 persons had stormed the High Commission premises in Chanakyapuri Diplomatic Enclave in Delhi, an incident over which India had expressed regret to Sri Lanka.
PT had claimed that its activists were not involved in the violence and only participated in a peaceful dharna at Jantar Mantar, about five kilometres from the premises.
When the bail applications, which were filed yesterday, came up, Justice K N Basha recused himself from hearing.
The judge directed the Registry to post the case before some other Judge after getting appropriate orders from the Chief Justice.
