New Delhi, August 04: JSW Steel, the country’s largest private sector steel maker by capacity, today said its production rose 51 percent to 5.02 lakh tonnes in July on robust demand from consumers like the automobile sector, construction and white goods.
The company said crude steel production for July was the highest monthly output in the segment. In the same period last year, the company’s steel production stood at 3.33 lakh tonnes, JSW Steel said in a statement.
“The company achieved the highest ever crude steel production of 0.502 million tonnes in July 2009, creating once again a new milestone by surpassing 0.5 million-tonne mark in a month for the first time,” it added.
The production of flat-rolled products, mainly used by auto and consumer durable industry, surged 45 percent to 3.02 lakh tonnes in July compared with the same period last year. JSW Steel produced 2.08 million tonnes of flat-rolled products in July 2008.
The production of long-rolled steel products, primarily consumed by the construction sector, increased by 39 percent to 61,000 tonnes in July 2009 compared with the same period a year ago, when production stood at 12,000 tonnes.
JSW Steel had enhanced the capacity of its Vijaynagar plant in Karnataka to 6.8 million tonnes and is hopeful of achieving a 70-72 percent jump in output in 2009-10.
