JSPL employees held by angry villagers

Dumka (Jharkhand), April 12: Four employees of Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) were held for over two hours today by villagers angry with their project at Agar village in Raneshwar police station of Dumka district.

The employees had gone there to attend the wedding of the village head’s daughter, the police said.

JSPL wants to set up steel and power plant there but have been facing opposition from the villagers who were reluctant to part with their land for the project.

A police force rushed to the spot and rescued the officials from the villagers.

The incident had taken place a day after an anti-displacement organisation, Jan Sangram Samity, held a meeting at Gopalpur village in adjoining Shikaripara police station and pledged not to give land for the project.
