Hyderabad, November 11: Lok Satta President Jayaprakash Narayan on Tuesday kickstarted his party’s campaign for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections by touring slums in Nacharam.
As part of the campaign, he announced the manifesto concerning the Nacharam division. The Lok Satta party will have separate manifestoes for each municipal division, party leaders said.
The Lok Satta president expressed concern over the polluted water which has been causing eyerelated and other health problems among locals of Nacharam.
“By taking photographs of the open nalas, garbage, and pigs in Nacharam, a programme will be launched to educate the locals and expose the failure of the government,” Jayaprakash Narayan said.
With the party’s city-specific slogan of ‘Seeti bajao – city bachao’, Jayaprakash Narayan led a rally from Habsiguda crossroads to Nacharam.
“If the State government says that it has developed Hyderabad, then why are diseases like dengue, malaria and other contagious diseases spreading,” Jayaprakash Narayan questioned.
Lok Satta has promised to identify government lands which have been encroached. Efforts will be made to take back possession of the land and construct school buildings or other public amenities.
“If we are given the power, we will help local youth develop employable skills so that they can be absorbed into industries,” Lok Satta leaders said.
