Hyderabad, December 02: The value of journalism has taken a back seat as the media is giving importance to profits, Andhra Pradesh Press Academy Chairman D Amar said.
Speaking at the 14th Narla Memorial Endowment Lecture on `The Changing Face of Media’ here today, he said Indian journalism can be seen in three parts – Nehruvian era, pre and post Indira Gandhi era. “Till 1960, Indian Press was not a critic of the Government.
But after the war with China the Indian Press started criticising the Government for the first time. Press started playing the role of an Opposition,’’ he added.
The contribution made by Narla Venkateshwara Rao in the field of Telugu literature, culture and journalism remains an example for the subsequent generations, Amar said.
On every birth anniversary of Narla Venkateshwara Rao, Dr B R Ambedkar Open University along with Venkateshwara Rao’s family members organises lectures on various public issues.
