Jordanians demand prisoners’ release

Amman, March 07: Hundreds of anti-government protesters have once again taken to the streets in the Jordanian capital, Amman, demanding the release of political prisoners.

More than 400 protesters gathered in front of the king’s newly appointed Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit’s office and called for political prisoners’ release.

The demonstrators said the prisoners had been jailed to “please the US and Israel.”

“We should not be afraid of America because it has lost everything. We will continue our protest until all prisoners are freed,” AFP quoted one of the protesters as saying on Sunday.

The protesters are also escalating pressure on the ruling family to accept political reforms and constitutional monarchy.

“The people want Islamic rule,” the demonstrators chanted, as they carried banners reading, “Our sons are being tortured.”
