Joint effort required to tackle encephalitis: Azad

New Delhi, November 22: Health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has sought a multi-ministry approach to tackle the encephalitis disease that has killed hundreds of children over the last few months in Uttar Pradesh.

Five other ministries have also been asked to pool in efforts to salvage the situation.

During a meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM), Azad reportedly emphasized on the need for various ministries to help in the rehabilitation work.

“We are trying for joint efforts by all departments concerned and will brief them about their roles. We will have meetings and will send recommendation to the cabinet,” Azad said.

Ministries of Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation, Social Justice and Empowerment, Women and Child Development and Urban Development have been reportedly consulted to tackle the disease.
