Leaders of political parties and various organisations here will launch a joint campaign on January 19 and 21 to focus their 18 point charter of demands to ensure protection to women, minor girls and downtrodden.
The parties and outfits include the BSP, Dravidar Kazhagam, People’s Rights Federation, Manidha Neya Makkal Katchi,
Women`s Rights Organisation and Viduthalai Vengaigal among others held a joint meeting today to evolve an action plan.
Secretary of CPI(ML) local unit S Balasubramanian said in a release here that the meeting adopted resolutions, seeking stern action against the culprits involved in the recent abduction and rape of a schoolgirl.
They also wanted government to set up fast track courts to handle sexual harassment cases, introduce adequate number
of buses for school students, post a chairperson for the State Women`s Commission, steps to create a Child’s Rights
Protection commission and effective legislation to prevent atrocities on women.
The parties and representatives of various outfits decided to launch a campaign in Puducherry region on Jan 19
and 21 in support of these demands, he said.
