New Delhi:A jobless man who allegedly plotted his own abduction to shell out money from his parents was arrested here for misleading police.
According to the police, the accused, Mahipal Singh, who lives in a rented accommodation in south Delhi called up his father in Nainital yesterday and informed that he has been abducted and the kidnappers have demanded Rs 1 lakh ransom for his safe release.
His brother-in-law informed the police, following which a case was registered at south Delhi’s Fatehpur Beri police station.
With technical intelligence, police soon traced the location of the abducted person and it later emerged that it was his fiance’s residence in Sriniwaspuri. On being questioned, he initially tried to mislead investigators but later broke down.
During the interrogation, Singh disclosed that he was working as cashier at a restaurant in Gurgaon but later lost his job, and failed to get any job after that. He conspired the entire act to get money from his parents.
He informed his father about his kidnapping and took shelter at his fiance’s house in Sriniwas Puri. The police has recovered two mobile phones used by Singh in the incident and arrested him under appropriate IPC sections.
