New Delhi: A day after violence in JNU, the senior warden of Sabarmati Hostel in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), R Meena has resigned from his post. In his letter, Meena stated, “We tried but could not provide security to hostel.”
More than 30 students, including JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh, were injured after a masked mob entered JNU and attacked them and professors with sticks and rods on Sunday evening.
According to eyewitnesses, 50-odd masked goons entered the campus around 6.30 pm on Sunday. Armed with sticks and stones, they barged into Delhi’s prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University campus and beat up students and teachers, spreading chaos and terror.
Aishe Ghosh, the JNUSU president who was bleeding heavily when she was taken to hospital, was “singled out and hit on her head by men who entered the university campus with the blessing of the guards, the administration and the police,” a tweet from JNUSU read.
Activist Yogendra Yadav was manhandled thrice outside the university. NDTV quoted him as saying “This is an attack right under the nose of Delhi police…this was an attack on the university.” He also claimed that he had information that the police had been present all along at the gates of the university, but did not act.
