JNU rape accused sent to 14-day judicial custody

New Delhi [India]: A Delhi Court on Thursday sent PhD student Anmol Ratan, who has been accused of raping a fellow scholar at the Jawaharlal Nehru University ( JNU), to 14-day judicial custody.
Ratan, who had been missing since Sunday, surrendered at the Vasant Kunj Police Station last evening.

The 29-year-old had allegedly raped the girl a few days back after luring her to his hostel room on the pretext of giving her the copy of a movie she wanted and then giving her a drink spiked with a sedative.

Ratan, an activist of the All India Student Association (AISA), was expelled from the outfit after the allegations against him.

“AISA takes serious note of the fact that Anmol Ratan, a leading activist of AISA, is facing a criminal complaint of sexual assault. He is henceforth expelled from the primary membership of AISA. The fact that a leading activist of ours is accused of sexual violence, calls for serious introspection and re-invigorating the process of sensitisation against sexual violence within and outside the organisation,” the AISA said earlier in a statement.(ANI)
