J&K rights panel takes note of civilian’s death

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Human Rights Commission on Thursday took suo motu cognisance of the death of a civilian at the residence of former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah last week.

The state rights commission issued notices to the state police chief and the Inspector General of Police (Jammu Zone) to submit a detailed report on the circumstances that led to the death of Murfad Shah at the Jammu residence of Abdullah on August 4.

The commission took suo motu cognisance of the development following a news report, officials said.

The commission has fixed the next date of hearing for September 10.
