Fresh ceasefire violations by Pakistan are underway in Balakote and Hamirpur sectors of Poonch. The violations are on from 7pm. The Indian troops are retaliating. Further details are awaited.
Pakistani troops in the morning had violated the ceasefire twice by firing and shelling on forward posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in two sectors of Poonch district, drawing retaliation from Indian troops. Pakistani troops resorted to firing with automatic weapons and mortar shelling on forward posts along the LoC in Krishnagati sector from 0710 hours, a Defence Spokesman said, adding they fired 82 mm mortar bombs.
Pakistani troops also fired from automatic weapons on forward posts along the LoC in Balakote sector from 1820 hours to 2100 hours last night, the spokesman said. Troops guarding the LoC retaliated resulting in exchanges, he said, adding firing was on when reports last came in from the area.
“Our side retaliated appropriately but no casualty or damage was reported,” he said.
Pakistani troops have violated the ceasefire 17 times in September this year.
On Sunday, BSF officer Sohan was killed in Pakistan shelling when Pakistani troops targeted their post in Manjakotr sector along LoC in Rajouri district.
On August 28, three civilians, including two women, were killed and 17 were injured as Pakistani troops pounded border areas of Jammu with heavy shelling and firing.
There had been 55 violations of the border ceasefire agreement by Pakistan in August and over 245 ceasefire violations in the year so far.
On September 5, an army jawan was injured as Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire by firing on forward posts along the LoC in Poonch district.
