New Delhi: Ahtesham Bilal Sofi’s case the former student of Sharda University who was in news for going missing after he took leave from the varsity and was later known to have joined Islamic State Jammu and Kashmir, was handed over to Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Sofi aged only 17 years is a resident of Srinagar and was a first-year student at Greater Noida’s Sharda University.
According to reports, he went missing on October 28 after he took permission to go to Delhi says after he got caught up in a brawl between Indian and Afghan students present in the campus.
CCTV footages revealed Sofi left on his own will and was not pressurized to do so. The J&K cops have also questioned many people on his whereabouts but could not get clear information about him except that he took leave.
Meanwhile, a missing complaint has been filed in Greater Noida as well as Srinagar for Sofi, Oneindia reports.
Though there is no confirmation on whether Sofi has actually joined the terrorist organization but his pictures on social media dressed in a black outfit tell a different story.
The UP Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has been tracking the case since October 28 and has taken cognizance of the photos.
While the J&K cops speculate Sofi’s presence in the Valley, the Gautam Buddh Nagar police said they have traced Sofi’s last location to terrorism-hit Pulwama district in South Kashmir.
The Noida Police said Sofi reportedly for Srinagar from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport in the afternoon of October 28 and reached Pulwama a few hours later.
When Sofi’s father was asked, he told that Sofi spoke to him at 4.30 pm stating he was in Delhi while his location was traced to Pulwama.
