J&K: 50-hour long gunfight ends

Srinagar, August 16: The nearly 50-hour long encounter between the security forces and the militants finally ended on Monday.

A militant and an Army jawan were killed and three Army jawans were injured in the encounter on Monday. The deceased Army jawan has been identified as Sepoy S K Singha.

The LeT militant killed on Monday has been identified as Zargar.

In total three Lashkar-e-Taeba militants have been killed in the gunfight, which started when security forces launched a search operation in Shara Wali forest belt
in the district on Saturday, Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, R K Jalla told the reporters.

Two militants were shot dead on Sunday by the security forces. They have been identified as Sajjad Kashmiri and Abu Qamran.

The Army team was lead by the Major S.K Mahapatra, who got injured in the fight on Sunday.

The militants are suspected to be from the Lashkar-e-Taeba group.

These militants were involved in the attack on a bus carrying civilians and army jawans at Der-Ki-Gali in Rajaouri district on Wednesday.

Two people were killed and 18 others were injured in this attack.
