Jilted lover kills girl, ends own life

A jilted lover today killed his girl friend in broad daylight and later committed suicide by stabbing himself with a same knife after she rejected his marriage proposal at the busy Parry’s corner area in the city today. Police said, while the girl died on way to Government General Hospital, the 25-year-old youth, died soon after admission. The girl, a resident of Manickam Nagar at Tiruvottriyur in North Chennai, was working as a trainee in a software firm at suburban Nandambakkam.

She was in love with one Raja alias Rajarathinam, who was a tenant in her house.

A native of Tirunelveli, Raja was working in a private firm at Tondiarpet in North Chennai.

Coming to know about their affair, Seetha’s father Senthamizh Selvan spoke to Raja’s parents and arranged for their wedding a few months ago. After the girl’s parents came to know that Raja was a habitual drinker, they halted the marriage plans and informed this to their daughter also.

Following this she stopped meeting Raja. Upset over this, Raja went to Parry’s Corner to meet the girl when she came to board a bus for Nandambakkam. Raja insisted her to marry him.

When she rejected, Raja, in a fit of rage, took out a knife and slit her throat. He also stabbed her in the abdomen, before stabbing himself.

Both were rushed to the hospital. While she died on the way, Raja succumbed to stab injuries a little later. Esplanade police have registered a case and were investigating. UNI
