A 19-year-old girl from Jharkhand today approached the Delhi High Court seeking police protection alleging her parents were not allowing her to pursue further studies after she completed class-XII last year. Justice Vipin Sanghi summoned the girl’s elder brother, who is staying in Delhi, to know how she has been staying alone in the city since May, 2011, against the wish of her parents and posted the matter for hearing on June 18.
K K Manan, lawyer appearing for the girl told the court that she has been staying as a Paying Guest in Mukherjee Nagar and preparing for banking examinations.
Manan submitted that the girl wanted to study further after she had completed class-XII but her parents pressurized her to get married at the instance of some relatives. The girl hailing from Ramgarh district said that she does not want to get married at this stage as she wants to study further. UNI
