Jharkhand: 1 killed 3 injured in mob lynching over suspicion of cow slaughter

Ranchi: A mob beat a person to death and left three others injured in suspicion of cow slaughter in Jharkhand’s Gumla district. Police informed that the incident occurred late Wednesday night, when four persons of the tribal community in Jhumro village were cutting the flesh of a dead ox.

The Indian Express reported that four persons of the tribal community in Jhumro village were cutting the flesh of a dead ox when some persons of Jairagi village began a scuffle with them. Thinking that the tribals had slaughtered a cow, villagers from Jairagi started beating them up leaving one person identified as Prakash Lakra, as severely injured. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.

According to Deputy Inspector General (Chota Nagpur Range) Homkar Amol Venukant, the incident occurred around 20 km from Dumri police station, bordering Chhattisgarh. Police has formed a team to nab the suspects.

The DIG who interacted with the villagers, came to the conclusion that the ox had died of “natural causes”. An FIR has been registered in this connection but no arrests have been made so far.
