Jhabua blast: Prime accused Rajendra Kaswa, two brothers arrested

Pune :Four days after the explosion in Petlawad town in Madhya Pradesh’s Jhabua district that left 89 people dead and nearly 100 wounded, the prime accused Rajendra Kaswa was on Wednesday arrested in Maharashtra by Madhya Pradesh police.

The Police had launched a massive manhunt for Kaswa who is being blamed for the negligence as a result of which the blast occurred in which over 100 persons were killed.

The brothers of Rajendra Kasawa, the prime accused in the case, were also detained by police.

“We have taken into custody Narendra and Phoolchand, two brothers of the main accused Rajendra Kasawa and handed them over to Jhabua Police,” a police official told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

Jhabua Superintendent of Police, G G Pandey, however, refused to give any further information about the development stating that the matter was under investigation.

After taking the duo into custody, police hope to get definitive clues about the main accused Rajendra Kasawa, who is absconding since the explosion on Saturday.

Yesterday, police seized 69 detonators, two batteries and a large number of gelatin sticks from the residence of Narendra in Petlawad. The explosive materials were allegedly illegally stocked by him for carrying out mining activities.

Meanwhile, a top official associated with the probe said, Kasawa’s mobile phone was functioning till Saturday afternoon (even after the explosion) and his family members had been contacted using that phone.

However, police said it was not clear who used that mobile phone.

The official also said that a close relative of Kasawa was taken into custody from Indore’s Lodhipura area and was questioned in connection with the case.
