Jews in the U.S. exhibit Muslim Heroism

During the World War II, Muslims from Albania had risked their lives to rescue Jews from the Nazi brutality. The King of Albania, King Zog, had personally seen to it that every Jew who came to his country was served and helped. So, in memory of heroism of Muslims, Jews in New Jersey have organized an exhibition, until the end of this month.

The exhibition showcases photos taken by the American photographer, Norman H. Gershman from his book, BESA: Muslims who Saved Jews in Germany. It also screened a documentary based on Gershman’s book, which shows interviews with children and grandchildren of Muslim rescuers and the Jews they rescued. It tells an emotional story about the entire incident.

The exhibition was held at the South Brunswick Public Library and it was organized by the Sisterhood of Salaam/Shalom, a local group of Jewish and Muslim women who who are dedicated to fostering friendly relations and good understanding between the two faiths.
