Jerusalem is precious; escalating tension will cost dear to Israel, US: Erdogan

Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Saturday said escalating tensions with regard to occupied Jerusalem will cost dear to US and Israel. In his address to the participants of the 16th Islamic Circle of North America-Muslim American Society, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said American Muslims are facing the worst trials, threats and new challenges; this is the best opportunity for American Muslims to think about the solution unitedly.

The Turkish President said the victory in United Nations once again proved the preciousness of Jerusalem. He called on the Muslim world to “understand its real strength.” He was referring to the vote on Jerusalem on January 21 in general assembly where 129 countries voted in favour of the resolution.

The Turkish president’s remarks were broadcasted as a video message during the 16th Islamic Circle of North America-Muslim American Society Convention in Chicago, Illinois — one of the largest Muslim gatherings in North America.

Erdoğan said: “The victory we gained on the issue of Jerusalem is an indicator of the many things we can achieve together through solidarity…This victory at the same time demonstrates to the world that there are values that cannot be bought with money. The blackmailing and threats prior to the voting have been futile.”

“It is time the Muslim world understands its real strength. We must not allow anyone to divide us based on ethnic, sectarian or cultural differences,” he added.

He reiterated that Jerusalem is too precious and a “red line of all Muslims.” and called on Muslims to “not allow anyone to divide us based on ethnic, sectarian or cultural differences.
