Jeevan Reddy asks Chidambaram to hold all-party meet on Telangana

Former Minister T Jeevan Reddy on Sunday said that the Congress party’s failure to clarify its stand on Telangana statehood demand pushed it to the fourth position in the by-elections in Parkal assembly constituency.

Talking to reporters in the assembly premises, Jeevan Reddy said that Union Ministers Ghulam Nabi Azad and G Vayalar Ravi should have participated in the by-elections campaign in Parkal constituency to assure the voters that the party would come out with favourable decision on the statehood issue. However, he said that neither the Central leadership, nor the State leaders could convince the voters about party’s stand on the statehood issue.

Jeevan Reddy said that the YSRCP honorary president Vijayamma assured the Parkal voters that she would abide by the Central Government’s decision on State’s bifurcation and her party endorses Telangana sentiments. He said Vijayamma’s statement brought the voters close to YSRCP in the by-elections and it stood second after Telangana Rashtra Samithi. He said with all the parties putting blame on the Congress party for delay in the Telangana decision, the party’s future in the region looks dark in the next elections. He predicted that Congress party would lose its identity in the region.

He demanded that Union Home Minister P Chidambaram convene an all party meeting soon which would force the parties to speak out their clear stand on the statehood issue. He also demanded that the State send factual reports on the existing scenario in the region to the Centre. (INN)
