New delhI: Jeera prices surged by 0.98 per cent to Rs 19,085 per quintal in futures trade today as participants widened their positions backed by rising demand.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in January month shot up by Rs 185, or 0.98 per cent to Rs 19,085 per quintal with an open interest of 456 lots.
Similarly, the spice for delivery in far-month March contracts was trading higher by Rs 70, or 0.40 per cent to Rs 17,680 per quintal in 4,590 lots.
Traders said widening of positions by traders amid rising domestic as well as exports demand in the spot market, mainly led to rise in jeera prices at futures trade.
