Srinagar, September 24: Employees of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) went on an indefinite strike from today to protest against the government”s failure to release salaries for August and non implementation of the sixth pay commission. Work in all the departments of JDA came to a grinding halt as almost 800 employees including officers participated in the strike.
Amid anti-government demonstrations, the president of JDA employees association Rajinder Kumar told reporters that the state administration had not issued salaries of employees for the month of August and did not implement the sixth pay commission. “Government has given a step-motherly treatment to us by stopping the salaries”, he said.
JDA is among the few autonomous bodies in the state which has been surviving on its own funds and depended on the government only for salary of its employees, Kumar added. The strike would continue till we do not get wages as per the sixth pay commission, he said adding that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah should intervene in the matter.
