JD (U) condemns Agriculture Minister’s ‘love affairs for farmers suicides’ remark

New Delhi, July 24(ANI): Janata Dal (United) leader K. C. Tyagi on Friday condemned Union Agriculture Minister Raja Mohan Singh’s controversial remark blaming love affairs for farmers’ suicides and accused him of trying to mislead the Rajya Sabha.

Tyagi said that his party would file a notice of Privilege Motion against Singh.

“I will give a notice of the Privilege Motion against Agriculture Minister Raja Mohan Singh. He has misled the house regarding the farmers’ suicide while saying that the main reason behind the suicide is either the impotency of the farmers or their love affair,” Tyagi told ANI here.

Singh had earlier said that love affairs or impotency was the cause of death of more than 1,400 farmers in India this year.

“According to the National Crime Records Bureau, causes of (farmer) suicides include family problems, illness, drugs… dowry, love affairs and impotency,” he said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

The Agriculture Minister, however, did not rule out debt as one of the reasons. (ANI)
