JD (U) asks Centre to early decision on Telangana

Reiterating his party’s support for formation of Telangana, Janata Dal (United) National General Secretary Arun Kumar Srivastava on Sunday demanded that the Centre take an early decision on the statehood issue.

Addressing a press conference here, Arun Kumar said that his party was always in favour of smaller States and therefore, it would support the efforts for formation of Telangana at all levels. Stating that smaller States could ensure effective administration, he said that the Centre should not delay its decision on a sensitive issue like Telangana.

The JD (U) leader also informed that a campaign against corruption would be launched at the national level. Accusing the Congress party of promoting corruption at all levels, he said that corruption was more rampant in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Claiming that on an average each candidate spend Rs 10 Crore in Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, he said these MLAs resort to corruption to recover their election expenditure. He also claimed that contesting elections in Uttar Pradesh and other northern States was much cheaper compared to two southern States.

Arun Kumar informed that the JD (U)’s State unit has been reconstituted and P Purshottam Reddy has been appointed as the State President. While Abdul Waheed has been nominated as the Core-Committee Chairman, Pattabhi Ramaiah will be the General Secretary. The party will organise a national youth conference in Karimnagar in December this year followed by a students’ conference in Hyderabad in January next year.
