JB Patnaik sworn in as new Assam Governor

Guwahati, December 12: Janaki Ballabh Patnaik was sworn in as Assam Governor on Friday in a simple function at Raj Bhavan in Guwahati in the presence of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his cabinet colleagues.

The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Gauhati High Court Chief Justice J Chelameswar.

Patnaik had served as Orissa chief minister (Congress) for two terms and was appointed Assam governor after the term of the outgoing governor Syed Sibtey Razi expired this month.

Razi, who had served for only eight months after his arrival in the state from Jharkhand, was given a warm send-off by Gogoi and his cabinet colleagues at the Lokopriyo Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati on Thursday.
