Chennai, January 20: With her plans of stitching together a partnership with the Congress failing to materialise, AIADMK chief J Jayalalitha on Wednesday maintained she had not made any announcement on an alliance with the national party.
“Whenever the Centre acted against the welfare of the common man, the AIADMK has strongly voiced its opposition,” Jayalalitha said in Chennai. “I have never said there was any alliance between the AIADMK and the Congress.”
Though Jaya denied making any announcement on an alliance with the Congress, she had made several overt gestures to the party, including offering unconditional support to the UPA if the Congress was ready to take action against 2G scam tainted former Telecom Minister A Raja of the DMK.
Coming just a few days days after her statement equating the 2G spectrum sale scam to the inconclusive Bofors case, a touchy issue for the Congress, this is the latest indication that the realignment of coalitions has been ruled out.
