Jaya Prada to contest Rampur on BJP ticket? Eid posters spark speculations

Hyderabad: Post Khilji remarks against SP leader Azam Khan, the Eid Mubarak posters of Jaya Prada in Rampur multiplies the speculations of the actor-turned-politician to once again try her luck for Rampur Parliamentary seat but this time from BJP.

The rivalry between Khan and Jaya Prada goes back to parliamentary elections in 2009, when Khan wanted the wife of slain Mumbai ATS chief Hemant Karkare, Kavita Karkare, as the SP candidate from Rampur. The SP, however, decided to field Jaya, who was the sitting MP from Rampur. In spite of Khan’s opposition, she won from Rampur and the former was ousted from the party.

Jaya Prada backs in the news when he likens the character of Sultan Alauddin Khilji in film “Padmaavat” with Azam Khan. In the past, Jaya Prada had accused Khan of circulating material to sully her image.

“Though I call Azam Khan my brother, the way he tried to take revenge on me in various ways…whenever I watched Khilji (in ‘Padmaavat’ movie), the character reminded me of him,” the former Rampur MP told reporters here last evening on the sidelines of a programme.

The role of Alauddin Khilji, a 13th century Sultan of Delhi, was played by Ranveer Singh in “Padmaavat”, which was caught in a controversy with Karni Sena opposing it on the grounds that it “distorts” historical facts and projects queen Padmavati in poor light.
