Chennai, May 15: J Jayalalithaa, whose AIADMK has emerged as the single largest party in Tamil Nadu following Assembly polls, on Sunday staked her claim to form the next government in the state.
Jayalalithaa today met Governor SS Barnala at Raj Bhavan here to stake her claim. Governor Barnala, on his part, accepted the AIADMK chief’s claim and invited her to form the government.
Raj Bhavan officials said the swearing-in ceremony will take place on Monday and the Governor will administer the oath of office to Jayalalithaa at 12.15 pm.
Earlier this morning, Jayalaithaa was elected the leader of the AIADMK Legislature Party.
She was elected by 146 newly elected MLAs of the party at a meeting held at the AIADMK headquarters here.
63-year old Jayalalitha’s AIADMK scripted a spectacular comeback securing an absolute majority on its own with a tally of 150 seats in the 234-member Assembly.
