Jaya alleges underworld link, wants 2G licences canceled

Chennai, January 27: AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa today demanded that the Telecom Ministry immediately cancel all the 2G licences alleging that the spectrum money trail had close links with mafia don Dawood Ibrahim.

In a statement, she alleged that a firm, to which 2G license was issued, was linked to a shareholder of another firm, who was a “front man” of Ibrahim.

“The question is now no longer just one of causing a loss of Rs 1.80 lakh crore to India. It is the question of the security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Indian nation,” she said.

Jayalalithaa also asked the Union Home Ministry as to why it maintained “stoic silence” when it was aware of these issues.

Terming the telecom spectrum as a “precious national resource”, Jayalalithaa said “(Union Telecom Minister) Kapil Sibal, instead of wasting time on verbal shenanigans, should immediately cancel all the 2-G licenses illegitimately issued under a patently fraudulent deal”.

Flaying the government for its “deafening silence” and “total inaction” on these vital issues, she said “it raises serious questions about the patriotic credentials of some of our national level leaders.”
