Pratapgarh, Dec 25: The father of an army jawan was taken into custody following recovery of an AK-47 and other countrymade weapons from his residence at Pholpur village near here, police said today. The weapons, including SLR cartridges, were recovered during a raid conducted yesterday, they said.
The jawan”s father, Samiullah, who is being interrogated by police and intelligence bureau, has stated that his son, Niyaz, who is a havaldar and posted in Hyderabad had brought these weapons and cartridges, SP Mohit Agarwal said. The army headquarters has been informed about the incident for initiating action against the jawan, the SP added.
Samiullah had earlier been allegedly involved in the trade of illegal weapons and had also been jailed a dozen times. Samiullah”s other son, Israr was also allegedly involved in illegal trade and was absconding, police said adding, it was also being probed whether Samiullah had links with any terror or dacoit gang, police said.
