In a shocking incident, a PhD student of prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has accused a research scholar of repeatedly sexually assaulting her.
The accused, which has completed his PhD in Computer Science, stays in a rented place at the Munirika locality in south Delhi, while the victim stays in hostel.
The woman has alleged that she had given a complaint to the police earlier, but no FIR was registered even though she was taken for a medical examination.
This time, the police registered an FIR (number 986) under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) at Vasant Kunj (north) police station late on Tuesday evening after the medical examination.
According to the police, the incident came to the fore on Tuesday evening after the girl dialed 100 and informed the police control room about her ordeal. Local policewomen took the girl to AIIMS after which legal formalities were initiated. NGO counsellors were roped in and her statement was recorded.
The victim has alleged in her complaint that she was friendly with the accused and he used to visit her at hostel room frequently. The girl has told the police that on pretext of marriage the accused developed physical relations with her. She even accused her friend of filming the act on one occasion.
The alleged victim is a resident of Chandigarh, while the accused hails from Patna in Bihar.
