Jawahar Nagar residents demand regularisation of hut dwellings

Hundreds of residents of Jawahar Nagar staged a dharna at Indira Park here on Tuesday demanding regularisation of their hut dwellings.

Speaking to media persons, Desha Bhakta Praja Santha Udayam President K Raju said nearly one lakh people of about 35,000 families have been living in small huts at Jawahar Nagar near Shamirpet Road for the last 15 to 20 years. However, most of them have no proof of their residence. Taking advantage of the same, the local revenue authorities are trying to evacuate them although the State Government has called for regularisation of such dwellings as per GO Ms No 58. He alleged that the revenue authorities have been trying to handover the land to some corporate houses.

Raju threatened to conduct gherao at camp office of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and also the Secretariat if their dwellings were not regularised. (INN)
