Art & aesthetics play a very important role in human life, we need to preserve old architectural monuments. Eminent Artist Padma Bhushan Jatin Das expressed these views while delivering a lecture on Deccani paintings organized by Haroon Khan Sherwani Centre for Deccan Studies, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, on Tuesday, 27th November 2012 at Central Library Auditorium.
Prof. Mohammad Miyan, Vice-Chancellor presided over the lecture. Mr. Das in his inspirational lecture described art as a part of our living process. He underscored the importance of art and aesthetics in human life and lamented the neglect of old architectural monuments while speaking about the importance of preserving antique paintings for posterity. In order to give a visual representation to the talk delivered by Jatin Das, Salma Ahmed Farooqui, Honorary Director of the Centre showed a power point presentation by showcasing some classical Deccani miniatures from Ahmednagar, Golconda, Bijapur and Hyderabad, some of which are housed in well-known museums and libraries the world over.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohammad Miyan in his presidential remarks spoke about the effectiveness and intervention of art in the life of an educational institution. He also magnanimously offered to provide space in the university to house artifacts and paintings related to the Deccan.
A highlight of the event was that the Haroon Khan Sherwani Centre for Deccan Studies released its first publication, a monograph titled Syncretic Civilization of the Deccan which was the inaugural lecture delivered by William Dalrymple at the Centre on 11th September 2012.
Dr. Faheem Akhtar recited a Quranic verse to initiate the proceedings and the programme was compered by Abid Abdul Wasay, the PRO of the university. The programme was attended by academics and elite audience of Hyderabad.
