Pink City Jaipur, which prides itself as one of the tourist destinations in India, was shamed again on Monday after a Japanese woman was allegedly raped by a man posing as a tourist guide.
As per initial reports, a 20-year-old Japanese woman had hired a local youth as guide during her visit to the city. But her tour went horribly wrong after the ‘guide’ gave her some food items laced with drugs and raped her.
The incident occurred in Dudu, in the outskirts of the city.
A similar incident had occurred in Bihar last month where a Japanese woman was gang-raped.
The safety of woman tourists has been one of the major roadblocks in the growth of tourism in India as several countries are forewarning their women travellers to India, asking them to exercise caution.
Reecently, a newspaper had reported that the concern over safety has led to a drop of 25% in the number of tourists to Rajasthan.
