Tokyo, April 11: Japan says it has planned to widen the current 20-kilometer evacuation area around a quake-ravaged nuclear plant in the northeastern coasts of the country.
The area will include villages and towns that have had more accumulated radiation, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano told a news conference on Monday.
“These regions could accumulate 20 millisieverts or more radiation over a period of a year,” AFP quoted Edano as saying.
“There is no need to evacuate immediately,” he added, but said it would be desirable to proceed with the new evacuation over a one-month period,” he added.
