Srinagar, August 12: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said that several measures are underway for better traffic and transport management in the state particularly in the cities of Srinagar and Jammu.
Responding to supplementaries of various members, Omar today said in the Legislative Council, “An integrated approach is being adopted for the purpose with central assistance.”
He said Rs 30 crore each have been released for modernisation of roads in Srinagar and Jammu cities.
“Good roads are important for traffic management and due attention is being paid to this aspect,” he said adding a proposal is under consideration to install traffic lights at main cross-roads in both the cities.
The Chief Minister said two flyovers, one each from Jehangir Chowk to Rambagh in Srinagar and another in Jammu would be constructed to ease traffic congestion.
He said the Municipal Corporations of Srinagar and Jammu would be asked to explore possibility of constructing multi- storey parking lots to facilitate the public movement and generate revenue.
