Washington: Jamie Dornan and Melissa Barrera are all set to team up for Benjamin Millepied’s debut feature ‘Carmen’.
Variety reported that the film is a modern-day version of one of the world’s most celebrated operas which will be produced by Dimitri Rassam. The film, which will be mostly shot in Los Angeles, will go on floors this October.
Barrera will essay the role of Carmen while Dornan will play Aidan.
Calling the film the opera of his childhood, Millepied said, “Growing up, it was an ever-present part of my musical beginnings. It has inspired me greatly as an artist.”
“For many years, I have been passionate about creating a film musical, and ‘Carmen’ presents an incredibly exciting opportunity for exploring dance and music onscreen,” added Millepied.
For the background score, ‘Carmen’ has onboard Oscar-nominated music composer Nicholas Britell of ‘Moonlight’ and ‘Vice’ fame.
Sony Pictures Classics have bought the rights to the film for North America, Latin America, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, the CIS, and the Middle East.
Barrera is currently working for Warner Bros’ film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s ‘In the Heights’ while Dornan will be seen in John Patrick Shanley’s ‘Wild Mountain Thyme’.
