Hyderabad: “One Million Yes for 12% Muslim Reservation” campaign launched by the Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee (Minorities Department) has been receiving tremendous response across the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
“The response is overwhelming. All sections of the society are actively participating in the movement. While our volunteers collected thousands of signatures at almost all major streets of Hyderabad, hundreds of students have approached us expressing their support for the campaign,” informed GHCC Minorities Dept Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail.
He said that “Yes for 12% Muslim Reservation” campaign was aimed at collecting 10 lakh signatures so as to build pressure on TRS Government to fulfill its promise. “Previous Congress Government had a clear commitment and strong will to give Muslim reservation and therefore, it was able to implement 5% quota within 56 days after coming to power in 2004. However, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, who promised to give 12% Muslim quota in jobs and education in four months of power, is still finding excuses to delay the process. His road map for 12% Muslim quota is too vague and not time bound,” he said.
Meanwhile, Jamiat-ul-Ulema-e-Hind has announced its support for Congress party’s campaign on 12% Muslim quota. Abdullah Sohail, along with GHCC General Secretary Syed Nizamuddin and other Congress leaders, called on JUH Telangana president and ex-MLC Hafiz Peer Shabbir Ahmed at his office on Tuesday. During interaction, Hafiz Peer Shabbir said that the JUH would fully support the campaign and they would also make appeal for the same during next Friday prayers in Masjid-e-Zam Zam in Amberpet.
Those in favour of 12% Muslim Reservation can support the campaign by sending e-mail to “yesformuslimreservation@gmail.com”; Like the FaceBook Page “Yes for 12% Muslim Reservation”; Send SMS or WhatsApp message to the number “+91 7842 369 212” or they can sign the online petition, informed Abdullah Sohail.
