New Delhi: Taking a leap, Jamia Millia Islamia ranked 187 in the 2019 Times Higher Education Emerging University Rankings. The university has improved its ranking this year. Last year it was placed in the band of 201-250 in Times Higher Education Emerging University Rankings.
Only institutions in countries classified by the FTSE as “advanced emerging, “secondary emerging” or “frontier” are included in the Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings 2019. India comes under the secondary emerging category of this rankings.
The performance indicators for the ranking are teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
Prof. Shahid Ashraf, VC, JMI has expressed his happiness over this improvement and said, “This reflects JMI’s growing international presence and outreach besides the university’s impetus on high-quality research, publications and teaching.” He hoped that JMI’s performance for higher ranking will further improve in future.
JMI ranked 187 among the 442 universities from 43 countries which featured in 2019 Times Higher Education Emerging University Rankings. Besides Jamia Millia Islamia, twenty-four other Indian institutions also figure in the 2019 ranking of top 200. With this India also moved up by seven numbers in the ranking. The data was released by Times Higher Education (THE) on Tuesday.
The other Indian Institutions in the list are the Indian Institute of Science (14th), followed by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (27th), the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (35th) and others.
