Jamal Momin thrashed by goons inside train, force to chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’

MALDA: A Muslim migrant labour was abused and assaulted by four unidentified goons inside a train in West Bengal, after he failed to answer to their queries.

According to media reports, the victim identified as Jamal Momin was travelling back home in a Howrah-Malda Fast Passenger train, was allegedly assaulted by four goons for failing to answer to their queries about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the national anthem and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

It was reported that the innocent labourer was bombarded with questions so that the goons can dislodged him from his seat. Notably, all the passengers traveling in the train watched the episode without a murmur of protest.

The youths, desipte knowing Jamal had little education or no knowledged, throw questions that flew thick and fast: “Who is the Prime Minister of India? Who is the Chief Minister of Bengal? What is our National Anthem?”

The infuriated youths wouldn’t leave Jamal alone yet. They asked, “Do you offer namaz.” When Jamal answered in the affirmative, they thundered, “Shame on you. You offer namaz every day at a mosque but you don’t know the national anthem.”

The four youths then asked “Who is Nawaz Sharif?” and even forced Jamal to say “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”. They later got down at Bandel station.

Narrating his ordeal, the victim said, “I was not feeling well that day. So, I sat beside the window. But they forced me to leave that seat. I accepted it. The four youths then threw a volley of questions at me. I could answer some, but most I didn’t know. They began to abuse me, my family and my religion. No one in the compartment objected to the abuse,” the labourer said. “They roughed me up several times. I was reduced to tears. This went on till they got down at Bandel,” reported Times Of India.

Bangla Sanskriti Mancha, a local NGO lodged an FIR on Thursday against the accused based on the video clippings taken by the co-pessangers and initiated an investigation into the matter.
