Jaiswal thanks Hazare for Lokpal bill campaign

Ranchi, April 14: Union Coal Minister Shriprakash Jaiswal today expressed gratitude towards the anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare for indirectly helping the government in its plans to “eradicate” corruption in the country by launching an agitation for an “effective” Lokpal bill.

“Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi want to bring a strong legislation against corruption.

They want to create a strong institution like Lokpal to eradicate corruption. Anna Hazare’s successful campaign has made things easier for the government to take further steps against corruption,” he told reporters here during his two-day visit.

On why it took four days for the government to respond to Hazare’s demands, he argued that the time Centre took was not “very long”.

“Government did not find it difficult to agree to his demands, as it was already planning to making the institution of Lokpal stronger.
