Jaipur boy enacts suicide, dies

Jaipur,May 29: In a horrific incident, a 13-year-old boy died while imitating a suicide scene which he had witnessed in the neighbourhood. The incident took place at Dadabari locality in Kota on Wednesday.

The boy, Sunil, was living with his parents and elder brother Pradeep (15) at Shivpura Colony. His father, Purushottam Rawal, is an employee of a jewellery shop.

On Monday, Rawal’s neighbour Mukesh Nagar committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling of his room. As soon as news about his suicide spread in the colony, all the residents, including Rawal’s family gathered at the house.

Even as Rawal and his wife were consoling Nagar’s family, Sunil, a Class VIII student, also arrived in the house and saw Nagar hanging from the ceiling. After two days, when Sunil was alone at his home, he tried to imitate the suicide which he saw.

He took a piece of cloth and tied one end to the window bar and the other end on his neck. But the game soon turned fatal as the knot gripped around his throat and he died of asphyxiation. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital but was declared brought dead.

The boy’s father, Purushottam, said it was their fault as they should not have left him alone in the house. “He came searching for us and saw the spine-chilling scene. Being a child, he tried to copy the same when he was alone in the house,” he said.

SHO, Dadabari, Kailash Vishnoi told TOI that after seeing his neighbour hanging, Sunil too tried to copy the act out of curiosity. However, he could not untie the knot after he tightened it around his neck. The body was handed over to the family after conducting post-mortem and case has been registered, he said.
