Former Union minister and Congress senior leader S Jaipal Reddy today demanded that the Centre initiate action against Hyderabad Central University Vice-Chancellor P Apparao, for his hostile attitude towards Dalit students.
Jaipal Reddy visited the students fast camp on the HCU campus on Saturday along with Congress leader T Jeevan Reddy and Justice Sudarshan Reddy. Speaking at the camp, Jaipal Reddy said Rohit Vemula’s death was a void and deplored the way the University was treating the students as anti-social elements. Suggesting that the government provide protection to the Dalith students in the Universities, Jeevan Reddy alleged that the ruling TRS was more interested on elections, and least bothered about the tragic incident in the University which shook the conscience of the nation.
Justice Sudarshan Reddy appealed to the government to provide protection to the Dalits in the University. He also lamented the attitude of the Centre over the death of Rohit. (NSS)
